Dear America,

I do not appreciate getting a call from Samuel L. Jackson telling me to see "Snakes on a Plane."  How the fuck did you get my cell-phone number?  I'll see it if I want to, you bloodsucking Draconian marketing fuckers!  Your hype makes me want to see it less.  Fuck you, America.  Fuck you.

no, there's actually a website for it where somebody you know personalizes a message to you and types in your phone #. SOMEBODY YOU KNOW AND TRUST SOLD YOU OUT!

it's ridiculous.

my friends and i sent those to each other because we're excited to see the movie. so it was more of a present and less of an annoying marketing technique, since we were already sold.

I've been waiting for SOAP since I heard about it on a blog, in my opinion the beauty of it is that they barely did any marketing for the movie, and left it to people to spread the word about it. Someone just pranked you. I normally would side with you on something like that, but I can't help thinking that it's funny.

see, i highly disagree. i think this movie has been fucking hyped to death by the studio, and they want to make it seem like it's some giant cult phenomenon. this is the postmodern worl we're living in -- where a movie studio can make people super-excited for a movie (based only on the fact that it's called "snakes on a plane") MONTHS in advance. they've gotten the whole fucking country excited about the movie merely based on its title and i think it's ridiculous.

i'm not trying to be overly cynical, but i'm just sick of hollywood and the ways they try to get people to buy their shit.
